Hello!
My name is Tim Wilson, and I have worked in fundraising for over twenty years. Every day of those two decades has been spent in prospect management & research, which I love. I also love connecting with people throughout the fundraising world and learning about their paths to careers in philanthropy.
My goals for People in Fundraising and its companion podcast series are two-fold: to connect with and share the stories of people in fundraising as an oral history project, and to have this website and podcasts serve as resources for people in this exciting and impactful profession.
Tim's Story
I am a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Harvard University Extension School. The first 18 years of my career were in roles with successive responsibilities at Harvard Business School. In 2018, I relocated to Utah to join Intermountain Healthcare Foundation, gaining sought-after experience in healthcare philanthropy. In fall 2021, I became the inaugural Prospect Management & Research Manager at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, getting public higher education exposure to round-out my philanthropic sectors goal. To date, I have worked on large, small, and one-person prospect development shops, affording me a variety of staff management and resource experience.
Giving back to the prospect management & research community is a joy. I have served on the board of directors of the New England Development Research Association (NEDRA; 2016 - 2018), then as Vice President (2018 - 2020) and President (2021 - 2023) of Apra Utah. Both NEDRA and Apra Utah are regional chapters of Apra International. Serving on various NEDRA and Apra committees has blessed me with a wide network of kind, dedicated, and like-minded people who are passionate about fundraising. So many of these people have engaging stories to tell about how they came to work in philanthropy.
I consider it a privilege to talk with a diverse community of fundraising professionals and to share their stories. Thank you for listening and reading!
